About Traditional Acupuncture
It is an ancient system of medicine that originated in China over 2000 years ago. It encourages the body, mind and emotions to rebalance and heal naturally by addressing the root cause of current problems or strengthening potential weaknesses. This is an important principle of Traditional Acupuncture because it deals with the underlying cause of problems which prevents recurring symptoms.
By balancing the mind, body and emotions, Traditional Acupuncture not only treats specific conditions, it also acts as a preventative medicine to promote good health and general well-being.
Traditional Acupuncture affects the whole person and treatments are tailored on an individual basis, therefore it is used to treat many conditions. Some of these are listed below (if your condition is not listed please call Mita for an informal discussion).
Some of the conditions that can be treated;
- Cancer Care
- Chronic fatigue and low energy levels
- Digestive problems
- Eye problems
- Facial Revitalisation e.g. softening lines
- Gynecological e.g. period problems, infertility, endometriosis
- Headaches and Migraines
- Mental and Emotional e.g. stress, depression, anxiety

- Musculoskeletal e.g. back/neck/shoulder pain, sciatica, arthritis

Who has Acupuncture?
It is chosen to treat specific conditions as above or to strengthen good health and prevent potential problems. Acupuncture can be used in conjunction with conventional medicine and is considered safe for all ages including babies and children. It is often used during cancer treatment and palliative care to promote relaxation and help energy levels.
What happens during treatment?
At the initial consultation a full health history and details of current symptoms is taken as well as identifying your emotional make-up and your strengths and weaknesses. Diagnosis also involves taking your pulses and checking the tongue. The treatment is tailored to your needs and uses very fine (size of a hair) sterile disposable needles. The experience of the treatment is a relaxing one and benefit is usually felt within five treatments. Length of course and frequency of treatment depends on your condition.
